I'm always looking for interesting blogs and websites (I know. I have no life, but...I do. I really do. I just like it when people get inventive in ways I never imagined). One of the places I visit now and then is oddee.com. Here's a story they did on people who went above and beyond with their Facebook profile. What do you think? Awesome? Too much? Kind of creepy? Fun? For that matter, what do you think about Facebook? Do you use it? If you do, how has it helped you? Or hasn't it?
Come back and visit. The contest goes on!
Best Wishes,
Facebook takes up way too much of people's time and I see too much personal info out there. I only joined to follow some favorite authors.
ReplyDeleteKaye, I do worry when people post very personal, identifying information on the web, especially the type of information that those with bad intentions are looking for. But I've also made contact with some wonderful people on the Internet, including readers I would never have met at all otherwise. Plus, I can see how it would be a blessing for the homebound. On the other hand, I don't like to spend more than a short time a day there when there are so many books to be read (and written) and life to be lived (and for me, walks to be taken. I love to walk, and walking takes time).
ReplyDeleteI do not do Facebook... I prefer going to the sites I enjoy with the time I allow myself on the computer...
ReplyDeleteGreetings and salutations, Myrna!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is on FaceBook. If she finds a photo of interest to me (especially re family far away), she emails it to me so I can print it. I'm apparently "old school", but where does she go when she wants to find a particular picture? Yup. To me. Her mother. The one not on FB and probably will never be on FB - as I prefer blogs, emails, snail mails, phone calls, and get-togethers in person. (Never say never.)
Well, I have a Facebook page mostly because my daughter talked me into it...but I forget to go there every day....it is fun to see what other people comment on. I probably should use it more and maybe I'll get to that point sometime.

I think people who use facebook spend way too much time with it and are too open...where is the mystery of a person anymore? I'm not a facebook person and won't be....I'd rather spend my time reading a book. I can phone my friends if I want to talk to them.

I'm finding it interesting to see how different (but often the same) we all are, which is great. I ended up on Facebook more or less by accident (a long story involving a relative who wanted me to look at a video he'd posted, after which I forgot I even had the account until more than a year later when a reader suddenly found me). Now, there are days when I forget to check in or I just don't have enough time, but I have friends and relatives and readers stretched out all over the world. It's an easy way to touch base or to get a quick hand count when we can't actually get together. But most of the information I post there is very generic or just for fun stuff.
ReplyDeleteThat is a bit too creepy. I use facebook to chase up news on authors, companies & events. I don't have a facebook page myself.

Marybelle, I thought it was a little bit creepy, too. I'm not sure I want to feel as if there's someone looking at me while I'm reading. Thank you for mentioning it as a good way to keep track of what's going on without even having to have a page, since authors, companies, stores, museums, magazines, movies and television shows usually keep their pages public and viewable by everyone. I have a few favorite stores and museums which post special deals on their Facebook page. That's helpful...when I remember to look.
