Glass Pumpkins are Awesome!

While I was writing yesterday's post about pumpkin art, I came across a number of  photos of glass pumpkins along with some information on The Great Glass Pumpkin Patch, an annual event in Palo Alto, California which has, unfortunately, already taken place this year (the 17th annual event was held in September).

Still, there are many photos of glass pumpkins floating around, so here are a few of my favorites:

I'm not sure where this is from, but aren't they cute? (And beautiful)?

The following video is from the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois. They have an annual glass pumpkin event (as do other places, including MIT). If there are no glass pumpkin patches near you, check out the local art galleries, or if you're in a purchasing mood, Etsy has many of them for sale.

For the finishing touch, here is the world's largest blown glass pumpkin. This is from the Corning Glass Museum and this was made in 2009 (so it may have been surpassed since then). It took five tries and an entire team of glass blowers to create it.

  2. I would love to have one or two of these myself. I'm not much of a collector, but I do have a weakness for blown glass. I'm kicking myself because I missed a local blown glass pumpkin fest (next year, for sure).
