I'm in the Mood for Teapots

These blog posts are so often subject to happenstance. During the last week I posted on pumpkins. That led me to information on blown glass pumpkins. Included in those images of glass pumpkins was a teapot shaped like a pumpkin, which...well, let's just say that now I'm on to pretty or artistic teapots.

Mind you, I'm more of a coffee drinker than a tea drinker. But my mother-in-law was British and she gave me my first teapot. I'm a bit in love with it. There's nothing fancy about it, but I look at it and it just feels like "home." And I think that's what teapots are often all about to me. I look at them and I think of a family sharing time (and tea). Or a group of friends sitting around a table together. Maybe it's just me, but I look at a teapot and get all sorts of positive vibes. So, here are a few interesting ones.

Le Chat Noir (the black cat) from the Metropolitan Museum of Art Store, this single-serve teapot is based on Theophile-Alexandre Steinlen's book of illustrations, Des Chats (1898) in the museum collection.

Shoes were always on her mind...

Of course, there are many more out there. Here's one that's very similar to my own favorite teapot.

I can't help wondering where this search will lead me next. Types of tea? Tea infusers? We'll see.

  1. My teapot must be similar to yours too then....

I haven't used my teapot in years. My mother-in-law doesn't like her tea very strong, so I just hand her the tea bag with her cup of boiled water, and she dips it herself. (Makes her happier this way.) I only drink tea if it's included in my meal at a restaurant, as I add 3 packets of sugar in my tiny cup - and I really don't need all that sugar! I gave up pop in Oct/10 (but drink it in mixed drinks if at the bar or at friends' homes), so I don't miss having that sugar in my system.

I have lost 8 pounds so far this month and don't want to rock the boat. Basically, when I take my steroids for the rosacea on my face, I gain or sustain weight; when I cut back on the steroids, I lose a pound or two a week. So, of course, I don't want to use the steroids, but there comes a time when I must up my dosage again because I simply look like hell. Right now I have a big red blotch on my cheek that looks like a huge zit wants to pop out in a week or two - so I'm trying to use warm compresses on it in addition to a bit of the steroids (as I can't give up the steroids completely), but I know I soon will have to resort to the full medication again. It's a vicious circle, but my priority is to lose a lot more weight, if possible.

And all that story because you mentioned teapots. Go figure....

  2. I grew up drinking tea. In my family you begin as soon as you can hold a cup. It begins as milk with a spot of tea enough to warm.

My teapots are boring, but my Mother has given all the grand-daughters a crazy tea set each. Over the years my daughter has received a beautiful, mis-matched tea set. The teapot is quirky & just beautiful.

  3. Sugar is the one thing I'd love to cut from my diet. Working on it.

  4. Mary, your daughter's and granddaughter's tea sets sound like so much fun! I love the whole business of having mismatched but beautiful sets.
