It's sad that we have to keep having this battle, but there's always someone (or some group) that wants to ban books. So we have Banned Books week. I usually try to buy at least one banned book during this time, just to be perverse and make a point. But others have their own way of making a point, and librarians are especially good at this. Here's a banner made by the East Branch of the Dayton Metro Library. This was made in 2000 and shows 99 of the 100 most commonly banned books from 1990-2000.

To see the top ten books (ten per year) from 2001-2011,
check out this page on the American Library Association's website. There's also lots of other great information on their
Banned Books site. They also have a YouTube channel dedicated to the
Virtual Read-Out for Banned Books Week. Lots of authors (of banned books) reading from their works.
Happy Reading!
I have to say I hear banned book and then my curiosity is aroused.
ReplyDeleteI agree. When a book is banned, I can't help wanting to know what all the fuss is about.
