Why Do Competing Businesses Set Up Shop Near Each Other?

I've often wondered why there are several businesses of the same type so close to each other (in my case, there are two major hardware stores and two major office supply stores within less than half a mile from each other). Now, after watching this brief TEDEd video, I know the answer.
